About Sherpa Flies
Whether driven by passion or devotion to fly fishing, Sherpa Flies was established in 2012 with a singular mission: to craft the world’s finest fly fishing flies. Utilizing premium materials and innovative design principles, we are committed to producing exceptional modern flies for anglers worldwide, regardless of their fishing destination or target species.
Our Origins and Community Impact
Sherpa Flies operates from the Nawalparasi district in south-central Nepal, situated adjacent to the country’s first national park. While this region boasts remarkable environmental richness, it also faces significant economic challenges, with residents earning an average per capita income of approximately $3.80 per day.
At Sherpa Flies, we are deeply committed to ethical design and production practices. This commitment drives us to innovate continuously, drawing upon local wisdom and traditional craftsmanship. We engage members of the local community, including experienced fishers and skilled artisans seeking sustainable employment opportunities. Many of our team members are women from marginalized backgrounds who face limited access to education and economic resources.
Corporate Social Responsibility and Fair Trade
As a premium fly manufacturer, Sherpa Flies maintains a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility and fair trade principles. We recognize and embrace our responsibility toward our customers, employees, local communities, and the environment.
Our flies are handcrafted in a rural village in southern Nepal through a progressive partnership with Bhola Bickram Thapa, owner of the President Group of Companies in Nepal. Mr. Thapa’s vision extends beyond charitable giving—he believes in empowering Nepalese citizens through dignified, well-compensated
employment that enables them to build sustainable livelihoods and escape poverty. This philosophy aligns with the principle: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Our commitment to the local community provides our artisans with the means to better support their families. The flies featured on our website represent not only the skill of their hands but also the aspirations they hold for their futures
